What does a corporate integrity lawyer do?

He or she represents corporate executives, directors, in-house counsel, compliance specialists and other senior management in navigating the hazardous minefield when those individuals have identified suspect corporate practices, even prior to instituting the formal “whistleblower” process.

Why needed:

There is a whole cottage industry of (1) in house legal/compliance specialists, (2) outside law firms and (3) HR consultants that train companies how to neutralize company insiders who raise corporate integrity issues. The corporate integrity lawyer levels the playing field.

The following specialty areas are involved:

  1. Preparing an executive for a corporate internal investigation.
  2. Advocacy in internal investigations.
  3. Determining pros and cons of whistleblower status.
  4. Evaluating whistleblower statutes that provide for monetary rewards.
  5. Complex false claim litigation.
  6. Deciding between litigation vs negotiated settlements.
  7. Avoiding constraining arbitration.
  8. Training for effective interviews with Federal investigators, such as US Attorneys, FBI, ICE, the SEC, etc.
  9. Evaluating and handling media requests.
  10. Preparing for and presenting Congressional testimony.
  11. Defending preemptive corporate litigation.
  12. Psychological preparation.
